Congratulations to Steve Bewley who guessed the weight of our pumpkin exactly!  Steve won a bottle of Gelfand Wine for guessing...318 lbs!   You can tell the holidays are near, as everything seems to just get busier.  At the Pub our entertainment schedule fills up fast, and we have lots of new shows coming.   Don't forget to mark your calendars for Nov. 14, when we will be hosting comedian Dennis Gaxiola (from Laffapalooza and Que Locos) along with our local celebrity comedian Shady Parker.  Everyone who attended the last show will tell you just how much fun we all had!  There is a cover charge for this event of $10.    Just prior to the comedy show, our local thespian youth will showcase their upcoming shows.  Pismo Beach Youth Theater will be performing Sleeping Beauty and RENT in January, and we are bringing in the talent on Friday night for a short show.  You'll want to be there by 7:30pm to see their half hour production.
Also this Friday night we will be hosting a wine tasting of Organic Wines from 7-9pm.  It is $7.00 for tasting.   So, you see you won't want to miss all the fun this Friday!
sake photoSAKE ANYONE?     As the popularity of Japanese restaurants is on the rise in America, so is the consumption of Sake.  Sake is a Japanese alcohol beverage made from rice.  It can be served cold, room temperature or heated.  History of Sake in Japan goes back to 3rd Century Chinese text, which speaks of the Japanese drinking and dancing.  Japan's first written history was compiled in 712, and mentions Sake several times.   Currently in Japan there are over 1700 breweries producing Sake.  This number has dwindled almost by half from 20 years earlier.  But, we are seeing Sake breweries sprouting up around the world, in China, Southeast Asia, South America, Australia and North America.  (next time you're in Berkeley, check out our closest brewery!)   At the SLO Down Pub, we are carrying a wide variety of options.  We have 5 different cold varieties all coming from different regions of Japan.  One variety is even unfiltered.  All are sold by the bottle.   We also are preparing Japanese Soju Sake by the shot or as a Sake martini!  (shaken not stirred!)  The Sake martini's come  in cranberry, pomegranate or dirty martini.   You'll want to give Sake a try if you've never experienced it's light taste.  It might soon become your favorite!
